Other daily religions

Reading a random news article today, I came across the following quote:

". . . the hymnal of Ms. Winfrey’s secular religion, the church of bootstrapped uplift that is “Oprah” with services every weekday." (See source)

It reminds me, especially relevant during this time of Christmas shopping and other holiday rituals, that there are numerous commercial religions that many of us practice repeatedly, even daily, that potentially serve no purpose or betterment of the human race. Something as simple as tuning in every day to watch one hour of Oprah seems mindless and yet, if we accidentally miss it we feel out of sorts and unsatisfied.

Is not the same thing true for one hour of service or Mass during the week? Shouldn't we feel unsatisfied if we go without fostering our faith for a mere fraction of the time that we practice other commercial religions?
